Ann Martin: Artist

Bridport, Dorset

I was born in Northampton, attended Notre Dame High School in the town, doing, among other subjects A Level Art. I then went to St Andrews School of Occupational Therapy – my work as an OT was in the psychiatric field where art featured as a calming influence for many disturbed patients.

I then spent twenty years in Africa, Liberia and Nigeria bringing up two children, returning to UK in 1986. I have lived in Dorset for the last twenty-four years, I live close to the sea among the rolling hills of the Jurassic Coast.

Surrounded by this wonderful landscape I started to paint again, I have found that I am successful when I paint what is around me so I paint what I love!

I want people to be able to experience the landscape as I see it every day. To be able to hear the skylark singing, smell the hay as it sits in the fields, to be in Dorset each time they look at one of my pictures on the walls of their homes.

This past two years I have been doing some teaching at workshops, mainly for local Art Groups. I have been on the Committee of Bridport Art Society for the past twelve years and Chairman for six years.
