Barry Helsby: Artist

Axminster, Devon

On leaving school I was on a scholarship to the Ryland Memorial School of Art, West Midlands - including a course of commercial illustration at the Birmingham School of Art.

I was then employed by Kendrick & Jefferson Ltd, West Bromwich, a firm of international printers, as a layout artist in their graphics department.

Later, I made a major change of career by entering the Royal Air Force as an aircraft technician - hence my interest in aviation art.

After many years in civil aircraft engineering my wife and I moved to the West Country.

I am interested in all styles of painting - especially heritage and transport subjects and therefore admire the work of the late Terrence Cuneo and also David Shepherd and others of similar style.
