Barry Seaforth: Artist

Colyton, Devon

Born 1957 in London, I graduated from Winchester School of Art in 1979 dreaming of one day becoming a full time artist. I moved to Devon in 2004 and on setting up my studio in Appletree Cottage that dream is much closer. With the sea only 2 miles away and stunning countryside on my doorstep, subject matter is endless.

Impressionism is a big influence on my work. I like to be bold and distinctive in my approach, not to be to fussy whilst keeping a figurative feel. I greatly admire the work of past Artists such as Walter Sickert and Edward Sego.

My main medium are Oils, either on Gessoed Board or Linen Canvas. Each new painting for me is an experiment in new Brush strokes and Mark making. A new subject offers new possibilities. My work is continually developing and evolving.

I am usually to be found sketching around my local towns of Sidmouth, Beer, Axmouth, Seaton and Colyton. Fly fishing is my second passion and this features frequently in my work.

I have exhibited and sold many works at local Art shows and Fairs and undertaken many commissions over the years. My work can be found in private collections in the UK, Switzerland and Australia.
