Carolyn Barker trained for two years as a commercial artist in Nairobi , Kenya and then gave up art to follow her husband to various countries with the United Nations. She later took up oil painting while living in Egypt, painting the people and animals and selling successfully to the tourist trade.

In Pakistan she took up silk painting for six years on a semi professional basis, bringing the work back to England while on leave and holding two solo exhibitions every year in a gallery in Suffolk.

Upon settling finally in Devon, she has worked mainly in watercolour , oils, and acrylic and collage..

Her work has been sold and collected in several countries and has been exhibited in various local galleries.

Her preferred subject is seascapes, especially wild energetic seas where she is inspired by the movement and different moods of the ocean. She harks back to her childhood by painting elephants for fun. She belongs to three art societies in Devon and her work can be seen at various charity exhibitions.
