Colleen Du Pon: Blacksmith

Bridport, Dorset

I absolutely love working with metal!  I produce a range of work, from functional Homewares to Sculpture and Architectural Ironwork. I blend forging with hand, hammer and anvil, with contemporary metalworking processes to create works primarily in mild steel.

I've been working with metals for over 14 years and occasionally go back to Copper and Silver, but Iron is such a challenging medium, the elemental processes of Blacksmithing keep me engaged with it! I keep busy with bespoke commission work.

I am originally from Canada. I have a BA in Silversmithing and Metalwork (2002) from Camberwell College of Arts in London, I now live in Bridport, Dorset, on the Jurassic Coast, the South Coast of England. I am also employed part time as a Design Technology Technician at the Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis.

It's still a novelty for me to live beside the sea and it's beautiful. My influences are primarily the natural world, I have a fascination for aesthetics, the beauty of nature, science, far flung places and I love walking my dogs on the hills and beaches.
