Elise Miles: Artist

Bridport Dorset

I was born at Charmouth, just along the coast, daughter of well known local artist Ellis Long. Influenced not only by him but also by the stunning Jurassic coast, my work has been mainly concentrated on landscapes and seascapes, mostly in oils.

I am on the committee of The Bridport Art Society and our monthly meetings, demonstrations and workshops enable all of us to widen our horizons and experiment with new mediums and techniques.

Acrylic paints and inks have allowed me to extend my view of our beautiful countryside from purely representational to the vivid and abstracted, portraying our ancient hills and cliffs as dramatic shapes and vibrant colours.

This has led me to a fascination for a totally different world of city skylines where the buildings and confusions of light become a brilliant landscape filled with possibilities and mysteries.
